Saul Zaentz Sues Miramax-Disney (Again!) Over Oscar-Champion The British Patient

Thatlegendary 90-year-old movie producer Saul Zaentz is litigious is certainly not new. Today he’s suing Miramax and Disneyfor breach of contract alleging he hasn’t seen enough make money from the 15-year-oldBest Picture Oscar-winnerThe British Patient. He’saccusingthe galleries of blatant self-dealing and manipulation and mistating the film’s revenue by millions to be able to enrich itself — although not Zaentz — in addition to deceitful and unfair accounting practices regarding the the film. The suit was filedtoday by Lavely & Singer’s Marty Singerin La Superior Court. But here’s the one thing: This isn’t the very first time Zaentz has been doing this. He prosecuted Miramax and Disney over virtually exactly the same stuff within the same court within the same picback in 2006. Also it was Lavely & Singer who filed that suit, too. (Did they simply Xerox today’s complaint?) That firstscuffle was ignored in 2008. Within this latest legal fight, Zaentzalso is seeking $20 million in damages — just like before. Obviously, the Weinsteinsowned Miramax once the film was launched, however it’s Disney’s problem because Zaentz claims a button House guaranteed to become great for the dough.Obviously,Walt disney doesn’t own Miramax any longer. Such a mess.
